Résumé:
The main objective of this work is to analyze the conditions of environmental health in rural
communities in the semi-arid region of Paraíba through the adaptation of a system capable of
organizing data, building indicators and indices for the purpose of generating information and
local knowledge about Environmental Health in Rural Communities (ISA/CR). For this, the
Environmental Health Indicator System (ISA) for Rural Communities (CR) was adapted and
applied, a method already known and applied by Costa (2010), called ISA/CR, in the
municipality of Ouro Preto - MG. The spatial area chosen for application were two rural
communities in the municipality of Cajazeirinhas-PB, namely: Barrento and São Braz I. From
this application, the viability of this model was verified and the verification of its parameters in
the reality found in these communities. At the same time, an analysis of the conditions of
environmental health among the communities involved was also carried out. At the end of the
work, with the results obtained and compared with the literature, the application of this indicator
system in rural communities was observed, it serves as a useful tool to quantify and compare
the conditions of environmental health in rural environments, and may serve as an instrument
of analysis and planning for solving environmental sanitation problems in an area of knowledge
so lacking in research and investigation.
