Resumo:
The growing demand for data traffic is requiring more efforts from communication systems,
in searching for alleviating or eliminating limiting factors of capacity and bit rate
throughput through new technologies. In the field of optical communications, elastic
optical networks (EON) are advantageous compared to conventional optical networks,
which use wavelength division multiplexing (WDM), as they enable a more efficient use
of the spectrum frequency. Spatial Division Multiplexing (SDM) optical networks have
also been analyzed as an alternative to provide communications systems with greater capacity,
since they make use of the spatial diversity of fiber — whether it has multiple
modes, cores or even a packet of fibers. In this context, this work presents an extension
of an open source simulator for WDM/EON optical networks, considering now its application
in SDM-WDM and SDM-EON networks and the impact of physical penalties
associated with them: interference between cores and between modes . For the purpose
of validating it, simulations of specific scenarios were performed in order to compare the
results with those found in the literature and those obtained in other computational tools.
