Resumo:
The present work aims to analyze how the state provides support to direct and indirect victims of violent crimes in the Brazilian legal system, considering the legal provisions regarding the assistance that should be provided by the state, as well as by the authorities that make up the criminal justice system. Regarding the specific objectives, an investigation of the consequences caused by violent offenses to the victims was proposed, as well as a discussion of whether the assistance provided by the state proves to be sufficient. Furthermore, doctrinal and legislative proposals to make this
support effective were presented. In order to achieve these objectives, the monograph used the deductive method and explored bibliographic and documentary techniques descriptively, using historical, observational, and comparative methods. Through this research, we addressed the concepts of the victim and victimology, as well as the role of the victim in criminal prosecution and in some specific legislations. We also discussed the consequences of violent crimes and the advances and challenges of
public assistance policies for victims in Brazil. It was found that the state support provided to such individuals is still insufficient, as the assistance mechanisms are scarce and there are legal gaps on this subject, contributing to the exacerbation of the impacts caused by violent crimes on the victims.
