Abstract:
Violence against women is already a widely discussed topic in academia. However, the Covid-
19 pandemic brought with it new ways of coexistence, changing everyone's routine, as well
as the introduction of coping measures that restricted life in society and it was during this
period that violence and abuse were able to manifest themselves with greater force. . In this
sense, the topic in question started from the questioning about the existence of public policies,
assistance and social insertion of women, as well as the entire system of reception and
protection for victims of physical and psychological violence in the pandemic period, capable
of enabling complaints made by victims. Therefore, it is assumed that in Sousa/PB effective
public policies were not implemented to combat violence against women in the domestic and
family environment. The present research has the general objective of demonstrating the
insensitivity of the authorities towards the adoption of public policies aimed at combating
violence against women, during the pandemic period in Sousa/PB. The aim was also to collect
data relating to the number of incidents of violence, describe the victims and aggressors, based
on the records made at the Specialized Women's Assistance Police Station (DEAM), verify
the type of procedure instituted in light of the Code of Procedure Penal at the Specialized
Women's Assistance Police Station (DEAM), and research into the implementation of public
policies aimed at combating violence against women during the pandemic period. Regarding
the methodology used, it is worth noting that regarding the approach method, the research
used the hypothetical deductive method, which involves the formulation of a hypothesis to
compare it with reality, with an interest in confirming it or possibly denying it. , also using the
statistical method, as it was necessary for the mathematical quantification of the data. As for
the objectives, it is descriptive and exploratory, as we sought to explore the topic, aiming to
better understand it and describe victims and aggressors in detail. At the end of the research,
it was concluded that there are public policies aimed at combating violence against women,
however these proved to be ineffective, due to the growing number of victims of domestic
violence during the three years researched. It can also be concluded that the economic
dependence of women, since the majority were housewives, meant that many women were
even more restricted to the domestic environment and subjected to violent practices and abuse
on the part of their partners, ex-partners (main aggressors, according to the data) and other
family members, with no prospect of freeing themselves from the cycle of violence, due to
the aforementioned dependence, expressing more strongly that home is not always a safe
place.
