Resumen:
The adequate management of solid pharmaceutical waste is a fundamental issue in the current
context, as it involves not only public health, but also environmental preservation. Effective
management of this waste requires the active engagement of healthcare professionals, as they
play a crucial role in raising awareness about the responsible disposal of medicines. In this
context, the objective of this work was to carry out an integrative review of the literature on the
management of solid waste from medicines in healthcare services. The carrying out of this work
was based on the principles of an integrative review of articles published between 2018- 2023
with a qualitative-quantitative approach, using as a proposal the choice of database, definition
of search details, criteria for inclusion and exclusion of articles and presentation of results. As
a research source, the platforms PubMed, SciELO and LILACS were used as descriptors in
English and Portuguese: pharmaceutical AND management AND solid waste, thus leaving 14
articles to be reviewed, after reading and detailed analysis of the articles. The data were
described in Excel and organized in the form of tables. With this study, through data analysis,
it is concluded that it is clear that a large part of society does not have sufficient information
regarding the correct disposal of medicinal waste, nor about the impacts caused to the
environment when disposed of incorrectly. There is also a lack of organization in the
management of healthcare waste in healthcare establishments, where the lack of knowledge on
the subject promotes a lack of interest in applying instruments with the aim of directing waste
to the correct location.
