Abstract:
Socialization is a fundamental activity for people’s cultural and emotional development. However, on Brazilian university campuses, especially at federal public universities, built environments designed for this purpose are unsuitable for their users. Regarding the theme of University (Architecture), a case study of the Federal University of Campina Grande - UFCG is carried out, in order to propose architectural projects (preliminary project) to qualify the physical space of the living center of the UFCG headquarters campus. More specifically, the aim is to: (1) adapt the existing physical space and its uses based on assessments from the academic community (students, staff, professors and key people); (2) prioritize the use, even if partial, of the existing built space, in accordance with the principle of sustainability; (3) favor spatial flexibility, so that the architectural complex adapts to new demands for use over time. To achieve this, the research is based on Post-Occupancy Assessment of the existing experience center, in addition to bibliographical and documentary research. As a result, it demonstrates that it is possible to requalify the current living area of the UFCG headquarters campus and maintain the main structure of the pre-existing building.
