Resumo:
The World Health Organization uses the term “quality of life” to refer to the way in which an
individual goes about his or her day-to-day life, that is, it concerns the way in which that
being is inserted, whether in the cultural, economic or cultural context. the way in which you
relate to other beings, your relationships, objectives, as well as the place in which you live.
Studies indicate that this quality of life is one of the main factors that permeate the routine
and performance of professional functions, such as food handlers. The ambiance of the
workplace can directly reflect on the worker's health, performance, and, mainly, the quality of
the service provided. Thus, in recent decades, the discussion about issues such as occupational
diseases has become one of the most analyzed topics in studies on reducing risks in work
environments. With this in mind, the objective of this work was to identify the occupational
diseases with the highest incidence in food handlers based on a review of specialized
literature. Using articles published between 2013 and 2023, in the following languages:
Portuguese, English and Spanish. The electronic data research base was through PUBMED,
LILACS, Google Scholar, Elsevier and SciELO and used the following operator descriptors:
food services, morbidity, food units, ergonomics and occupational diseases. The studies
analyzed showed that occupational diseases have a great influence on food service handlers
whether in the industrial kitchen, hospital or institutional kitchen and school kitchen, with the
first service being the most cited in the data obtained. Furthermore, the most prevalent
diseases were RSI (Repetitive Strain Injuries) and WMSDs (Work-Related Musculoskeletal
Disorders), however, social or psychosocial diseases were frequently mentioned. In short, the
studies analyzed showed that the causes that directly reflect on occupational diseases are
linked to ergonomics, which plays a very important role in the routine of workers, as it
focuses on offering organization in the work environment in addition to safety. and the
well-being of employees.
