Abstract

Technology has advanced considerably in Brazil, and its use is favoring the protection of both police and the population, mainly through bodycams, a microcamera system attached to the police uniform, which records the actions of agents when they are in activity within the police force. communities. In this sense, the present study sought to answer the following question: Can the use of surveillance cameras in service by military police guarantee police protection? In order to do so, a bibliographic research was used, with a descriptive and exploratory approach, since we sought to obtain detailed information on the exposed theme, in order to define the concept and role of the Military Police in Brazil, as well as describe characteristics related to collective rights within society, including the rights to security and life. The use of surveillance cameras by police officers is not yet mandatory in overt actions, but it is already being applied in some cities in Brazil. It is known the importance of recordings made by police, which makes it possible to record the aggressive attitudes of protesters or criminals, which can inhibit the practice of crimes. The PM must protect society, but there is no support in the law that guarantees its protection, that establishes its protective rights based on the principle of human dignity. It is understood that the State must provide the necessary security for the police to carry out their actions in a more dignified and reliable way, with guarantees for their survival. On the other hand, the surveillance camera project, which makes up the police uniform, can control police action and contain actions of abuse of authority. In this way, the usefulness of this technology is recognized and the need for it to be implemented urgently in other States.
