Résumé:
Pictograms are graphic symbols used to facilitate communication, therefore, they are useful in
guidance on the safe and effective use of medicines, especially for users with
difficulties in understanding. This work aimed to describe the evidence regarding
understanding of pictograms and potential for improving this tool, by
through Artificial Intelligence (AI). To this end, a review of the literature on the
integrative type, through the search for references published in the last 10 years, in
databases: ScieLo, PubMed, MedLine and LILACS, using the indexers:
pictograms, medicine pictograms, health pictograms, understanding
pictograms and use of pictograms, artificial intelligence, and artificial intelligence in
pharmaceutical care, with the corresponding descriptors in English, answering the
following question: “How does the population interpret pictograms?” Additionally
Microsoft Azure and DALL-E artificial intelligence were used to describe and
redraw the pictograms respectively. The results demonstrated the importance
of the use of pictograms in the rational use of medicines, as well as the main
weaknesses regarding the interpretation of some images by their users, which
are generally related to advancing age, lower levels of education and
occupation. This research highlighted the possibility of using AI, which demonstrated its
competence in redesigning pictograms in an improved way, making them more
effective in non-verbal language. Aptitude is based on the capacity of intelligence
artificial objects used to analyze data and visual patterns, which allows the creation of
clearer and more impactful graphic representations. Therefore, it is confirmed that the use of
pictograms can optimize the meaning of verbal language, as a system
supplementary communication to pharmaceutical practice, especially to people
belonging to a group with weaknesses and/or gaps in learning, but which
may also be subject to misunderstanding by its users, thus requiring
improvement, through new pictogram design tools, which improve
its interpretation and function through artificial intelligence.
