Resumen:
The emergence of Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases comes from multiple factors
and diet is one of the main factors for the development of pathologies, such as Diabetes
Mellitus (DM) and Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH), being predominantly
common in the Brazilian population, these diseases cause numerous symptoms in
people who are affected. The excessive consumption of sweet, processed and processed
foods tends to cause the onset of DM and SAH. To evaluate the consumption of sweet,
processed and ultra-processed foods among individuals with a self-reported diagnosis of
hypertension and diabetes in the municipality of Cuité in 2022. This is a cross-sectional
data analysis study on the frequency of food consumption in a group of people with
hypertension and/or DM. The population studied is part of a larger research project
entitled SANCUITÉ, with a longitudinal cohort design, which analyzed individuals
across four study segments: 2011 (n=358), 2014 (n=326), 2019 (n=274 ) and 2022
(n=255). In this study, data from the fourth stage of the cohort was analyzed, collected
in 2022 with the population of the municipality of Cuité-PB. Data collection was carried
out through interviews carried out by Nutrition students from CES-UFCG; containing
family and individual conditions, including socioeconomic information and food
consumption, the categories for analysis of frequency of consumption were: “Never,
infrequent and frequent”, of foods, sweets, (7 foods), sausages (8 foods) and
industrialized (7 foods). Of the monitored individuals studied, 16% and 34% reported
having a diagnosis of DM and SAH, respectively, with the majority being residents of
urban areas (77%), female (85%), elderly (61%), people with low education level (71%)
and with income above 1⁄4 minimum wage (85%). Regarding the frequency of
consumption of embedded, sweet and processed foods, there was a greater consumption
of embedded foods by people with DM, Sausage (66%), Ham and Mortadella (34%),
sweet foods by people with SAH: Fruit Sweets (44%), Ice Cream and Popsicle (30%).
With all the data collected, it was possible to observe that there is a greater consumption
of foods from the sausage group by people with DM and sweet foods by people with
SAH, as well as inadequate food intake contributes to the worsening of symptoms
caused by these pathologies, as well. adherence to dietary treatment is of paramount
importance.
