Campina Grande: poder local e mudança nacional (1945-1964).

Abstract

The aim of this dissertation is to anlyse the structure of power in the city of Campina Grande, taking into consideration the period from 1945 to 1964, looking at transformations of its relations to the national power. Thus, this work studies the concrete conditions of structural character; the objectives of the subjects and the aims of the social movements, as wellas its values, analysing than in their multiple relations. Defined the general conditions that lead to transformations in the period studied , the work goes forward to analyse the integration of the national economy into the hegemony of monopolist capital. It is shown that the appearance of the civil society [organized social groups which push changes forward) occurs simultaneously to that, bringing as a consequence a re-definition of the strategy of domination, of the dominant classes, at local and at the national level. As a conclusion, this dissertation comes to define the contents of crises that come out of the transformations of economic and political-institutional nature which brought about, as a result, the dismantling of the ideology of national - populism and the evolution of the social movements, as wellas, the way out found by the dominant classes to overcome the crises and to consolidate their power.
