Abstract:
Women from a whole process of struggles and demands in social movements, have over the years raised different positions within the social scenario, which imply their presence in the labor market, in knowledge production instituitions, in leadership positions; and even though they face a scenario of underrepresentation in the political space, they have been entering this realm in an active and qualified way. Their presence and participation in politics has given rise to the resurgence of a phenomenon: gender-based political violence. This aims to discourage, intimidate, restrict the presence and speech of women, in addition to exposing their intimate and sexual life, in order to ridicule and stigmatize them, framing them within a wide range of gender stereotypes. The apprehensions presented here were built from the understanding and analysis of politics in its practice, in its everyday life, whether it is expressed in online or offline realms. In this sense, the objective of this research focuses in broadening the debate on the existence of genderbased political violence, defining it in different forms and types and understanding it as a category of analysis. For this purpose, a documentary and bibliographical research was conducted, engaging with several authors who raise this debate in Latin America, especially in Brazil, context in which the research is situated, Along with news from online portals and in the social media posts such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, which serve as a means for the practice of gender-based political violence, and also as a reporting channel by women politicians who experience it. After this discussion, the objective is to contribute to the perception that gender-based political violence is a reality that distances and limits the activity of women politicians and that it needs to be named, defined and fought against, as a means of ensuring women their political rights, as well as ensuring the completeness of a representative democracy.
