Abstract:
Chemistry education plays a fundamental role in student's formation, providing them with
knowledge about the properties of matter, chemical transformations, and the relationship of
chemistry with the world around them. However, traditionalist teaching of chemistry, based on
passive transmission of information and emphasis on memorization of concepts, has often been
criticized for limiting students' understanding and demotivating them towards the subject. in this
context, this study aims to analyze the contributions of the case study approach in chemistry
education. The research was conducted in a 3rd-grade class of high school at Ecit Adilina de
Sousa Diniz, employing a methodological approach in three stages. in the first stage, the theme
was introduced through questionnaires to assess students' prior knowledge. In the second stage,
practical teaching activities were developed using the case study methodology, applying the case
of "miraculous mixture." finally, in the third stage, a new questionnaire was administered to
evaluate participants' progress in knowledge after the implementation of the teaching methodology.
the results obtained indicate that the use of the case study approach in chemistry education provided
a more meaningful and contextualized learning experience. students were able to relate chemical
concepts to everyday situations, stimulating their curiosity, critical thinking, and active
participation in the learning process. this methodological approach proved to be effective in
promoting a deeper understanding of chemical content and contributing to the development of
essential skills such as problem-solving and informed decision-making.
