Resumo:
Water has been recognized for thousands of years as a present and essential substance in Nature
that is a fundamental constituent for the survival of ecosystems and the lives of all beings on
our planet. Brazil has great water availability, but some regions face serious water scarcity
problems, especially in the Northeast region. In this way, small municipalities suffer from
prolonged droughts, and water sources are often used from artesian wells, cisterns, fountains,
without any prior decontamination treatment of this water, using alternative procedures in clay
filter systems. The present work aims to carry out an analytical study of the properties such as
pH, electrical conductivity, turbidity, chlorides, alkalinity and total hardness, of some artesian
wells located in the urban zone, in the municipality of Cuité-PB, used by the population after
percolation in filters traditional clay candles, containing candles with activated charcoal,
observing the characteristics of the reference matrix, following the standard of the Ministry of
Health Ordinance (Consolidation Ordinance no 5/2017 and Consolidation Ordinance no
888/2021), contributing with important results on water quality.
