Water is essential for the well-being and survival of all living beings, playing crucial
roles in various aspects of life and the environment, in addition to being of great
importance to agriculture and industry, and essential for domestic use and human
consumption. However, for human consumption, water must comply with the standard
values established by the Ministry of Health. Therefore, this study determined the
characterization of the physico-chemical parameters (pH, turbidity, electrical
conductivity, alkalinity, total hardness, and chlorides) of five groundwater samples from
the Ouro Branco municipality region in RN, comparing them with the water potability
standards established by the Ministry of Health through ordinances N.° 5/2017 and N.°
888/2021. Only sample 1 (Adeval) showed compliance with the physico-chemical
parameters (pH, turbidity, electrical conductivity, alkalinity, total hardness, and
chlorides) established by the Ministry of Health, with a pH of 6.98, alkalinity of 158
mg.L-1, turbidity of 1.42 NTU, electrical conductivity of 1071 μS.cm-1, total hardness of
294 mg.L-1, and chlorides concentration of 152 mg.L-1. Although the other samples
comply with some parameters, for other parameters, they showed values above the
maximum allowed by the Ministry of Health. For pH and turbidity, all samples were in
compliance. For chlorides, only sample 1 was within the standard value, and for total
hardness, only samples 1 and 2 had values below the maximum allowed.
