Resumen:
Water is an essential substance for the preservation of life and performs a wide spectrum of
functions in people's daily routine. However, for human consumption, it is essential that the
water complies with the standards established by the Ministry of Health. In this sense, it is
imperative to carry out analyzes of the physical-chemical aspects of this water and, thus, verify
its safety for human consumption . In Brazil, particularly the Semiarid region, it suffers most
from the lack of water resources, forcing, on many occasions, the population to use water
sources of dubious quality due to pressing needs. Consequently, the purpose of this study was
to evaluate the quality of water coming from wells located in the municipality of Cuité, Paraíba,
through the analysis of physical-chemical parameters as stipulated in Ordinances No. 5/2017
and No. 888/2021 of the Ministry of Health, based on water samples collected in March 2023.
The aim is to provide information about the quality of water that is distributed to supply the
city, both to the general population and to local authorities. In this context, measurements were
made of the following parameters: pH, conductivity, alkalinity, hardness, turbidity and chloride
concentration. This made it possible to observe that, among the samples analyzed, the pH and
chloride levels did not meet the limits established by the Ministry of Health. With regard to
total hardness, samples I, III and IV exceeded the maximum value allowed. As for other
parameters, the samples collected demonstrated acceptable levels for potability. Based on the
results obtained, it was clear that the water from these wells does not meet the quality standards
necessary for human consumption and, consequently, should not be used to supply the
population.
