Resumo:
This experience report describes the first module of the Pedagogical Residency Program
(PRP) at the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), with an emphasis on
Mathematics. The PRP aims to improve the training of undergraduates, allowing them to
actively participate in education from the second half of their degree course. Sixteen
undergraduates were divided into groups and assigned to a comprehensive citizens' school in
Cuité-PB. At the university, the students had the support of the supervising teacher who
coordinated the group through weekly meetings via Google Meet and at the school, each
group had a preceptor teacher to monitor the training process internally. A variety of teaching
methods were used during the lessons, such as group problem-solving, classroom
discussions, role-playing and practical activities. After each lesson, collaborative reflection
sessions were held involving teachers and students. These discussions made it possible to
evaluate the effectiveness of the strategies employed, identify challenges and make
adjustments as necessary. Initial results showed that there was a significant improvement in
student performance, discussed by the resident groups. In addition, the students showed
greater motivation to learn mathematics and greater confidence in their abilities. After this
experience, the undergraduates leave more prepared and motivated to face the future
challenges of their careers as educators.
