Resumo:
This course conclusion work's main approach is social, historical and environmental aspects related to charcoal production in the peasant community PIO X District of the municipality of Sumé belonging to the territory of western Cariri in Paraíba. To do this, we seek to understand this activity that has been present for more than 70 years in that community from the peasant workers who are daily involved in the production and distribution of charcoal to different micro-regions of Paraíba and other states such as Pernambuco. We used semi-structured interviews and interpretative analysis based on the three categories listed above. It was possible to verify that many have charcoal production as an ancient and cultural practice passed down from father to son, as well as few options for replacing this practice as a source of income. Awareness about the environment was perceived, but not as a concern to the point of reviewing practices.
