Resumo:
This research is part of the academic effort focused in the methodologies for the construction of models of information that facilitate the monitoring qualitative and quantitative processes and phenomena that affect the local development, from statistics indicators in the perspective of sustainable development. So this work provided a model and an index of sustainability for the city of Campina Grande - PB, with indicators weighted statistical aspects involving the legitimacy of the local population. The method involved the building of the systems such as: the choice of ordain march, selection and processing of variables, reducing the number of variables, hierarchy, the correlation between indicators and form of representation of indicators that combines signals with numerical results, was described step by step. In a second time, sought to validate the model weighted proposed in this search with the results achieved by Martins and Candido (2008) for the city of Campina Grande - PB, to evaluate the level of consistency between the views of social actors involved with the process of local development and statistical information recorded by indicators of sustainability. Finally, a study was conducted from case to measure the degree of local sustainability. The results pointed to an alert situation, but very close to the limit of the acceptable condition. The models proposed allow us identify a priority order of execution for the improvement actions in economic, social, environmental aspects and institutional locations.
