Resumo:
The development of a toxiineter, iustrument for detecting toxic elements in
wastewater treatment systems hifluent, is preseuted. The presence of these toxic
elements is prejudicial to wastewater treatment systems and must be detected before the
feeding of the influent into the biological reactor. This can be achieved through
monitoring the bactéria metabolic activity in a reduced scale biologic reactor, which is
fed with a fraction of the wastewater treatment influent. The bactéria activity can be
monitored by the measurement (estimation) of its oxygen uptake rate or respiration rate.
Results of simulation and experiments with the prototype using a classical
method and two proposed ones for estimating the oxygen uptake rate are presented. The
methods are compared with each other and its application characteristics are evidenced.
