Resumo:
The proper management of healthcare waste is one of the main tasks in the management of dental services, which involves the stages of segregation, packaging, identification, internal transportation, temporary storage, external storage, internal collection, external transportation, destination and environmentally appropriate final disposal. Inadequate disposal of dental waste can have catastrophic effects on the environment, whose balance and protection are of global interest and are the basis of life on Earth. With this in mind, the aim of this study was to assess the management of the disposal of solid waste from health services in private dental clinics in the city of Pombal-PB, considering the impacts caused to the environment and human health. The data obtained was presented in summary form and described to facilitate understanding, making the information obtained more suitable for comparison with other data in future work. Of the eight establishments covered by the study, only two have a Health Service Waste Management Plan (PGRSS), which complies with the health rules set out in the legislation and in the PGRSS, but which only superficially describes the different stages of Health Service Waste (HSW) management. It is recommended that projects be implemented to educate employees about the environment and that continuous inspections be carried out at production, packaging and temporary storage sites, in order to observe and subsequently improve management and preventive control measures for the health of the population and the environment in the management of solid sanitary waste in the municipality of Pombal-PB.
