Resumen:
With the population growth and urban development, the consumption of water has
increased and demand for water to meet human consumption, agricultura! and
industrial, tends to continue increasing throughout the world. The presence of green
áreas in cities is considered indicator of quality of life and local wooded usually
presents more pleasant to the senses humans. Moreover the public green spaces are
often built without planning, using species of plants unfít for the local reality, creating
diffículties of adjustment, since such species require a greater amount of water,
increasing the demand for irrigation and high consumption of water resources. In this
context, this research presents an assessment of the demand for water in public green
áreas of the city of Campina Grande - PB, where the projects are studied landscape of
fífty existing public green áreas and designed new models of sustainable landscaping
projects (PPS) based on demand water evaluated. The water demand is estimated from a
model of soil water balance, which is used to simulate the behavior of each of the public
green áreas over 30 years. In the event of implementation of PPS are simulated figures
for demand, which, compared with the values obtained for the green áreas today, show a
