Resumo:
Luminous phenomena are frequent and essential in our daily activities. However, comprehending the nature of light and how its concept evolved over the years demands an analysis of various historical periods, often overlooked in the teaching/learning process in basic education and teacher training courses. Thus, with the aid of the History and Philosophy of Science (HPS), we can understand how controversies related to the wave-particle duality can be applied in the classroom and contribute to the understanding that optical phenomena were not explained and deduced in a short period of time. The discussions proposed here are based on the review of research and arguments suggested by other authors. Some of these studies were selected through Google Scholar, SCIELO, abstract readings, keywords, and other websites offering filters for selecting relevant texts. Following this overview, we can identify the state of the art for this topic and its high suitability for classroom application.
