Resumen:
The Black Movement is an important collective act in contemporary Brazil's history,
considering its historical struggles for the emancipation of Black people and overcoming of
racism. In Brazilian historiography, there are several studies about the various phases in which
this movement played an important role in social struggles and in line of these studies that this
research is inserted, aiming to understand the representations of violence against Black people
in contemporary Brazil through the actions carried out by Coalizão Negra por Direitos (2019-
2022), an entity that emerged in 2019 in the context of the deepening of conservative practices
and discourses within the sphere of institutional politics that have sought and continue to seek
to legitimize racism in our society and, consequently, the mass extermination and incarceration
of the Black population. From this perspective, this work aims to be a social contribution
regarding the memory of the political action of the Black movement, mainly by discussing the
representations of violence against Black citizens, and in contemporary Brazil. The main
objective of this research is to analyze the representations of violence against Black people in
contemporary Brazil, as expressed in documents found on the website of the Coalizão Negra
por Direitos. To assist us in this analytical process, we will rely on studies such as those by
Almeida (2019), Telles (2003), Pereira (2010), Flauzina (2006), and Nascimento (1978), as well
as websites such as IBGE. For this purpose, qualitative research was carried out, supported by
the following methodological procedures: studies and analysis of the cases of violence against
Black people in Brazil, based on documents registered by the website of the Coalizão Negra por
Direitos. After analyzing the data, it is evident that the collected results are in accordance with
the objective of this research, confirming the existence of racism expressed through cases of
violence against the Black population in the country.
