Abstract:
The Participatory Budget (OP) is characterized by being a driver of social transformation, in which citizens are included in political debates with the purpose of discussing their needs and desires. Therefore, this study seeks to answer the following question: How has the process of implementing the Participatory Budget been discussed by councilors in the municipality of São José do Egypt-PE? Thus, it aims to develop an analysis of the importance of implementing the OP in the municipality of São José do Egypt - PE and its benefits for the local population. To this end, this article deals with a case study, with an exploratory and qualitative nature, with analysis and bibliographical research. Data collection was acquired through a questionnaire on the Google Forms platform between the 7th and 26th of February 2024, and we sought to identify the importance of implementing the OP in the municipality from the perspective of the participants, as well as how This movement is being discussed by the local legislature. To analyze the data, a content analysis of the selected literature was carried out. Furthermore, the questionnaire responses were analyzed using measures of central tendency and descriptive analysis of the results found. Based on the results obtained, it was possible to conclude that the Participatory Budget in this municipality can provide improvements in political, social and economic aspects, enabling transparency and credibility in local public management. Furthermore, it contributes to identifying the needs and desires of the population, enabling the creation of new public policies.
