A distopia voraz: As práticas de controle na literatura apocalíptica.

Abstract

The 20th century was shaped by the great world wars that also changed all around the globe and left a lof of destruction and death. A lot of movements with utopian ideas further radicalized these processes and, on the other hand, emerges the dystopia gender, emphasizing the concerns about the political and economic world situation and also criticizing the utopian ideal. In the 21st century, dystopia gender is again successful, mainly the literary and cinematographic series created by Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games. Based on the concepts of Practice by Michel Certeau (1998) and Controversy by Bruno Latour (2012) and Bruno Latour & Woolgar (1997), this work aims to analyze, discuss and understand the dystopian universe created by Collins through the discussion of the wars of the 20th century and its transformations, the utopian and dystopian ideal in this period and the influences and inspirations that made Collins to create her work. The main sources used in this work are all The Hunger Games’ movies and its prelude The Song of Birds and Serpents, and also the main dystopia books of the 20th century and historians such as Eric Hobsbawm (1995) and René Rémond (2003) and the author Evanir Pavloski (2005).
