Resumo:
The discussion about the role of phonological awareness in
second language (L2) phonological acquisition is not new. However,
many papers use a diferent terminology to refer to this cognitive ability.
This paper aims to present diferent terminologies used in works on L2
acquisition, discuss theoretical positions that led to those nomenclatures,
as well as describe their characteristics. The analysis took place in an
eminently theoretical way, from 52 scientiic works, and revealed at
least 11 terms to refer to phonological awareness, which were discussed
throughout this article.
