Quality of life is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO)
as "the individual's perception of their position in life, in the context of the culture
and value systems in which they live and in relation to their goals, expectations,
standards and concerns". Medical course is considered to be source of stress that
affects, to a greater or lesser extent, the quality of life of its students. OBJECTIVES:
To evaluate the quality of life of medical students from the 2018.1 semester of
Federal University of Campina Grande, Campina Grande campus, in the physical,
psychological, social and environmental domains; to characterize their
sociodemographic profile and compare the scores obtained between the cycles of
the course. METHODOLOGY: Cross-sectional, observational and descriptive study
with quantitative data analysis of 132 students, obtained by a sociodemographic
questionnaire and the World Health Organization Quality of Life instrument,
WHOQOL-bref. RESULTS: The perception about the quality of life showed that the
best evaluated domain refers to Social Relations and the Psychological domain
showed the worst evaluation score, with emphasis on the presence of negative
feelings that negatively influence the quality of life of the interviewees; there were
lower values in the Basic cycle of the course and an increase in the scores with the
progress of the course, but without statistical significance. CONCLUSION: The
present study showed a good quality of life for the students. Results indicate,
however, the need for attention and improvement, especially regarding the aspects
of the Psychological domain.
