Abstract

This article aims to underscore light and stage lighting technologies as a device able to modify and contribute to the kinesthetic experience in the performing arts, here understood as the perception of motion. By charting such topic’s history in the arts – specifically in dance and circus – and the advancement of lighting technology since the late nineteenth century to the present day, it intends to relate the lighting device to the perceptive act – as proposed by Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari – and to the technological apparatus of the scene. Thus, the lighting mechanisms stand out as a central part of the kinesthetic experience of artists and public.
