Abstract:
Lexical variation in the Portuguese language is a topic of great importance in
teaching the language, especially when considering the context of the textbook
intended for the 6th year of Elementary School final years. In this summary, we will
explore the relevance of incorporating lexical variation as a teaching strategy at this
educational level. The main objective of this work is to examine the lexical variation
present in the 6th year textbook, with the aim of enriching the understanding of
vocabulary variation. Furthermore, we will discuss the history of the evolution of the
Portuguese language, highlighting its origin. We will analyze how the textbook for the
6th year of Elementary School deals with the issue of lexical variation. This research
is bibliographic in nature, as it focuses on the analysis of a textbook, specifically the
book written by Cibele Lopreste Costa and Greta Marchetti, aimed at students in the
6th year of Elementary School II, valid from 2020 to 2023. The analysis is will focus
on the second unit of the book, which deals with linguistic variation. This work is
organized into four chapters, starting with an introduction to the topic, followed by an
exploration of the history of the Latin language and its influence on the origin of the
Portuguese language. Next, we will address the formation of the Portuguese
language in Brazil and, finally, we will present the analysis of the textbook. We hope
that this research encourages teachers and students to seek research sources to
improve language teaching, both in oral and written expression.
