Abstract:
This research aims to address the children's poetry genre as a tool in the formation of literary readers. Its purpose is to clarify the historical bias of the concept of childhood and the relationship between children, literature and school. Furthermore, this research presents an analysis of the characteristics of the poetry genre and the benefits of studying it in the classroom. Finally, a didactic sequence based on Cosson (2009) will be presented external to 6th grade students using some poetic forms. This is a bibliographical and qualitative research, based on Coelho (2000), Pinheiro (2007), Bordini (1991), Sorrentini (2009), Gregorin Filho (2009), among other scholars in the area, who had a great contribution to the completion of this work. The research finds in the children's poetry genre several concepts that make it an efficient tool in training children as readers.
