Abstract:
This work presented the dimensioning of a sanitary landfill for the city of Monteiro - PB, according to the National Solid Waste Policy. It should be noted that the objective of the research was to identify the factors for the implementation of a sanitary landfill in the Municipality of Monteiro, in the State of Paraíba, based on the technical descriptive memorial of the company responsible for the project. As a justification, the city of Monteiro - PB was chosen for the dimensioning of the landfill because it disposes of solid waste incorrectly, with final disposal in an open dump, causing several problems for the population and the indiscriminate degradation of nature. For this work, methodologically, primary data collection was carried out, in the second half of 2023, through a questionnaire, with the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Urban Services and the Secretariat of Planning and Urbanism of the municipality on the implementation project. In addition, secondary data were used, through document analysis, referring to the situation of waste disposal and the problems caused by it so that they can be solved. The results achieved demonstrate that the municipality has an excellent area, meeting all the necessary requirements for the implementation of a sanitary landfill in the municipality, with excellent logistics and enough space to support the production of Urban Solid Waste for the next 25 years. The research concluded that the installation of the sanitary landfill in the municipality will provide an improvement in the quality of life of its inhabitants, with a direct impact on public health indicators, in addition to reducing the environmental impacts caused by improperly deposited solid waste.
