Abstract:
This dissertation is a consequence of our research about the arrival of television in the city of Campina Grande, Paraíba. Our main aim is to discuss the process of implantation of TV
Borborema in the city, starting on discusses of local elite about Campina Grande being the
pioneer in receiving another symbol of modernity and progress. Our incursion began on the first years of the decade of 1960, when the project of implantation of the fírst broadcasting station of Paraíba already looks like as a promising enterprise for the city and the state, at least on the discusses of Diário da Borborema, responsible for the creation of a modern imaginary about the new attempt. For this, we go trough the years of 1961, when the project was being announced in printed newspaper, and 1965, when TV Borborema had already two years of experimental transmitions, on the brink of official institution. Using relates of memories of some ex-professionals and people from Campina Grande, which had lived the arrival of television to the city as telespectors, we try to (re)built some experiences with the act of doing television on its first years in city. We also try to discuss the reception of TV Borborema by the people from Campina Grande and how this contributed for the creation of a local televisive identity.
