Resumo:
The concept of the National Student Performance Exam (Enade) is a quality indicator that
evaluates undergraduate courses based on the results obtained by students completing Enade.
Therefore, to better understand the quality of the training offered by the courses to their
students, a greater understanding of the aforementioned concept and its impacts on the
evaluation of the courses is necessary. In this work, we aim to carry out a descriptive and
comparative analysis regarding the Enade/2021 concept of the 68 Mathematics Degree
courses at Federal Institutions of Higher Education (IFES) in the Northeast region of Brazil,
evaluating the performance of these courses, in a general and by state, in addition to checking
the situation of the Mathematics Degree course at the Federal University of Campina Grande
(UFCG), Cuité-PB campus, in relation to the other Mathematics Degree courses at IFES in
the Northeast and Paraíba regions. To this end, an observational research of exploratory and
descriptive scope was carried out, whose data were obtained from the Portal of the National
Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep) – Enade/2021. The
Enade (Continuous) concepts, year 2021, of the aforementioned courses, presented a slightly
asymmetrical distribution, with a mean of 2.070 and a standard deviation of 0.635. The
highest grade, among all the courses analyzed, was 4.026, a concept obtained by a course at
the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), considered a discrepant data in relation to the others
and the lowest grade, was 0.831, obtained for a course at the Federal University of Piauí
(UFPI). Furthermore, only 25% of the courses obtained an Enade (continuous) concept
greater than or equal to 2.429. When the comparison of the aforementioned courses is made
by state, it was observed that the courses in the state of Bahia obtained the highest average
(2.454), and those in the state of Piauí obtained the lowest average (1.662). Through analysis
of variance, it was possible to conclude that the differences between the means of the
continuous Enade concept of the states in the Northeast region are not statistically significant.
Regarding the situation of the Degree in Mathematics course at UFCG, Cuité-PB campus, the
aforementioned course presented in the last Enade, year 2021, the continuous Enade concept
of 2.241, the highest in its historical series, started in 2011, thus occupying , in 2021, the 26th
position among the 68 Degree courses in Mathematics of all IFES in the Northeast region of
Brazil, and the 5th position among the 8 Degree courses in Mathematics of the IFES existing
in the state of Paraíba. All statistical analyzes were performed using Excel software and R
version 4.3.3.
