Resumo:
This course conclusion work aims to identify the main challenges of the professional work of
social workers in basic education, which had its methodology included through bibliographical
and qualitative research, combined also with documentary research relating to the educational
scope, its policy, and dimension as a sociooccupational space of Social Service and also of
Psychology, following the promulgation of Law 13,935/2019. Along with these aspects, the
present research also included characteristics of the profession of social workers, both in its
broadest sense, and mainly in its historiographical perspective regarding the establishment of
activities in the area of education. This path taken leads us to conclude that the challenges
present for this work are diverse, and permeate a range of struggles and resistances of the
professionals who compose it, from pre to post establishment of the Law that regulates it and
the current daily context. Furthermore, and finally, the need for a process of constant collective
organization of social workers and also together with psychologists and other professionals
belonging to the area of education stands out, not only in a political way, but also on an ongoing
basis, through training, research formulations, subsidies and other materials, referring to the
profession in its daily challenges in this space so full of debates and possibilities.
