Resumen:
This paper makes an interpretative review of some Lowry type land use models used in urban, regional and transport planning. It begins with the conceptualization and definition of the principles that govern the construction of models
of land use, continues with the presentation, mathematical formulation, application report and comments pertaining to each type, from the classic theory of the central place to the present entropic models for the distribution of urban activities. It analyzes the use of Lowry models in the understanding of urban structures in Brazil and also proposes the structural reformulation of the Lowry model in the definition of urban activities for developing countries. It ends by questioning the future urban patterns of land use.
