Resumo:
The present study focuses on the theme of reading and its contributions to the finalitys of Basic Education, citizenship, world of work and subsequent studies, such finalitys are established in the Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education (LDB) as attributions of Basic Education, but the LDB prescribes reading as a way to achieve these finalitys.Thus, the general objective is to understand how the practice of reading can contribute to the achievement of the finalitys of Basic Education, recommended in LDB, Law No. 9394/96. In this research we sought to answer the following problematizing question: how can reading contribute to the achievement of the finalitys of Basic Education? We opted for the methodology of scientific research of a qualitative nature, of the exploratory type.The data collection instrument was a semi-structured interview with students of the Languages and Pedagogy courses of the Teacher Training Center (CFP). The results and conclusions: concludes that reading is an activity that can generate numerous contributions to people's lives, if there is a frequent practice, Frequent readings lead the subject to expand what they know and improve their being in the world. Therefore, the activity of reading does not only concern the classroom space, but various stages of life, understood as a means for people to be able to deal with situations, as citizens, students and professionals. Therefore, the act of reading inscribes the reader in social practices that demand reading and writing, promoting their insertion in the literate society.
