The objective was to evaluate the effect of different levels of metabolizable
energy and crude protein on rectal temperature, surface temperature and respiratory rate of
360 European quails (Coturnix coturnix coturnix) 22-42 days of age, raised in semi-arid. The
birds were distributed in a completely randomized design with a 3x2 factorial arrangement,
three protein levels (20, 21 and 22% CP) and two energy levels (3050 and 3150 kcal / kg),
with five replications. The measurement of physiological parameters was performed at 42
days of age of the birds in the morning and afternoon shifts. The TA and UR observed in the
morning shift were 30.8 ° C and 53.2%, respectively. In the afternoon, 29.6 ° C and 58.2%.
The average TR found in this study was 41.8 ° C within the normal range. The levels of 21
and 22% CP and 3150 Kcal / kg, there was a significant effect (P <0.05) where the animals
had higher FR, assuming that the use of panting mechanism resulted in maintaining
homeotermia. The TS was lower in the diets containing 3050 kcal / kg. There was no
significant difference (P> 0.05) in feed intake among diets. The levels of 21% and 22% CP
and 3150 IN kcal / kg showed higher weight gain and better feed conversion. Recommended,
the 21% crude protein levels and 3150 kcal / kg in quails European diet from 22 to 42 days of
age, to obtain better performance results.
