Abstract:
This dissertation deals with the old street carnivals in the city of Juazeirinho- PB, among the
decades of 1950 and 1970. Its history with the festivity begins in 1918, five years after its
foundation as a city. From then on, the inhabitants of “Joaseiro”, as it was called until then,
They begin to hold carnival celebrations annually. With their own dynamics, they had the
main blocks: Bobos na Folia, Satan no Frevo, Zé Pereira's block, Os Caçadores and the block
children's As Bonequinhas, among other dynamics particular to the city, such as the organization of
families, the carnival figure of Zé de Aurora, the persecutions of the papangus, carnival corsos,
the music bands and the social club JoazeiroClube. However, over the years, the practice of
playing carnival falls into disuse, becoming little practiced in the city, going from being a practice
traditional to oblivion. In this sense, based on oral reports and photographs from the time,
we elaborated our narrative about this carnival past, in order to answer: Why would a
