The specific objectives are: to present the profile of employees in the health sector of the Municipal Government of Sumé-PB; expose the advantages and challenges related to the management of local public servants; and evaluate how people management influences the performance of employees in the evaluated sector. The study combined bibliographical research and a case study at the Sumé-PB city hall headquarters, involving 4 respondents from the Human Resources sector and 298 employees from the health sector. Diversity was observed in gender, age group, education and employment of employees, despite general satisfaction with the positions. However, as a result, it is highlighted that the lack of a remuneration and career plan can impact motivation and retention. Structured HR departments and training offered are positive, but a more comprehensive performance assessment is needed. It is concluded that, regarding the advantages and challenges related to the management of local public servants, it was observed that the majority of civil servants are satisfied with their current positions or functions, but there is a significant gap in the presence of remuneration and career plans.
