Resumen:
This work analyzed the representation and performance of women in the municipality of Patos-PB, from women's rights, the challenges they face in the search for gender equality and the effectiveness of these acquired rights in contemporary society, in the legislative scope, as well as such as public policies in favor of women, aimed at achieving equality between the sexes. To this end, a mixed methodological approach was used, combining the rigors of qualitative research with the precision of quantitative research. Qualitative research allowed us to delve deeper into the experiences of women who work or have worked as councilors in Patos-PB. Through in-depth interviews with these women, it was possible to capture their perceptions, feelings and challenges related to female participation in local politics. The quantitative research, in turn, provided discrete statistical data on female representation in the legislature of Patos-PB. Through data analysis, it was possible to draw a faithful portrait of the evolution of women's participation in local politics over time. It was found that, despite there having been many advances in the 20th and 21st centuries, mainly in legislation, gender equality has not yet been fully achieved, given the vulnerable situation that women still find themselves in and treatment is not isonomic between men and women in various aspects, especially in the political sphere.
