Abstract:
With the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, many organizations are considering the possibility of returning to in-person work. In this context, it is important to evaluate the perceptions of software development teams in Brazil about this return. This study investigated how Brazilian software development teams dealt with the return to in-person/hybrid work after the pandemic and how this change of work impacted the software development process. We carried out a survey with 46 participants from software development teams and investigated aspects such as: work routine, collaboration, communication, productivity, well-being, assistance offered by companies and the software development process. We carried out a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the research results and compared them with previous studies. Our main conclusions about participants who returned to in-person/hybrid work are: (i) 85% of participants stated that they maintain a stable work routine related to the company's standard hours; (ii) 81.50% of participants consider their team to be collaborative; (iii) 66.60% are satisfied with communication in face-to-face/hybrid work compared to Work From Home (WFH) during the COVID-19 pandemic; (iv) 67% are satisfied with their well-being; (v) 67% are satisfied with their productivity; (vi) 66.67% are satisfied with the security measures adopted by the company post-pandemic and (vii) 70.37% stated that they had changed in the software development process due to the return to in-person/hybrid work. The main positive changes in the process are related to the practices of: division of tasks, safety and efficiency.
