Revisão historiográfica sobre o marranismo a partir da obra de Anita Novinsky (1972-2021).

Abstract

This study is focused on the study of Marranism, or crypto-Judaism in colonial Brazil, based on the work of Anita Novinsky and, from this perspective, analyzes her historiographical contributions to the study of this theme, also focusing on the circulation of her work and her prominent life as a great specialist in the area of the Inquisition and New Christians. In addition, the focus of this analysis will also be on the living conditions of the Jews after they left the Iberian Peninsula due to persecution by the Catholic Inquisition and how the preservation of their habits in private life was of fundamental importance for the maintenance of the Jewish faith and traditions in the Portuguese colony. Studying this will also open up our understanding of Anita Novinsky and other researchers in the field who have used her work as a starting point for their research. This paper will analyze the sociocultural contexts of the Marranos in colonial Brazil, bringing to light the search for the preservation of the traditions, their resistance, and also Novinsky's contribution so that we can understand the concept of being a Marrano.
