Resumen:
This study aims to present and describe what advances in the deaf community can manifest themselves and be reflexively visible, specifically its history in the religious sphere, in the lands of Borborema, having as its object the Pastoral of the deaf, which culminates in the analysis of the historical/social context of the deaf community. Libras in the Catholic Church, in Brazil and in Campina Grande, based on the action of the Pastoral for the Deaf in the Diocese of Campina Grande/PB. As specific objectives we define: identify how the historical development of Pastoral for the Deaf took place; analyze the consequences and contributions of this Pastoral between the years 1997 and 2022 for the Catholic deaf community in the social/religious sphere and for the Libras Literature course and teacher training; highlight the advances of this Pastoral for the insertion of the Deaf Community in the Catholic Church of Campina Grande and its relevance for the dissemination of Libras in that city. To this end, it was necessary to go through a historical path, bringing data that effectively contributed to its development, its influence being present until the orderly days as stated by the authors Schafer (1991), Moura (2000), Amato (2006), Gianini (2012), among others. Therefore, the entire investigation process took place through methodological principles with a qualitative basis in methods and execution. To this end, bibliographical research Gil (2006) and documents were mainly used. As a result, we see that, despite advances, there is still a lot to be done so that deaf people have linguistic accessibility and, thus, contribute to the progress of the region of Campina Grande - PB, and so that religious practices are increasingly accessible. to these subjects. They still suffer from the lack of access to information and communication in public spaces, even though there are laws and decrees that guarantee their rights. It is important to highlight that such facts may also become future developments for other research, with the possibility of being further explored, discussed and analyzed.
