Abstract:
This study focuses on the investigation of the Cine Capitólio in Campina Grande, Paraíba, a prominent representative of Art Deco architecture. The cinema's inauguration in 1934 marked urban modernization, becoming a cultural landmark and symbol of the city's rebirth. Despite being protected by IPHAEP, the Cine Capitólio faces the challenge of abandonment, becoming lost in the urban fabric and lacking attention from the competent authorities. The work proposes to trace the history of the building, understand its architectural dimensions and diagnose its current state of ruin through files and damage maps. The aim is to create a comprehensive documentary collection, analyzing the Cine Capitólio from its conception to the present day, highlighting the importance of preserving architectural heritage as a means of keeping history and urban identity alive. The study also proposes to analyze the intervention and requalification proposals already made for the Cine Capitólio based on Cesari Brandi's Restoration Theory. The objective is to contribute with measures for its requalification, aiming to rescue not only its architectural value, but also the city's memory, avoiding its oblivion and erasure.
