Résumé:
The urbanization process is not static, it changes over time along with the dynamics of the mode of production, which will act directly on the territory, transforming it. To talk about the expansion of the technical-scientific-informational environment, for example, means reflecting precisely these historical and geographical dynamics and how spatial organization and, consequently, urbanization in capitalism tends to update. In this sense, the importance of diversified urban studies is evident, since the complexity of spatial organization occurs at various scales and levels of analysis. Therefore, research on small cities has been gaining relevance in urban studies, being important above all to understand how the Capital is interested in expanding its accumulation spaces. Regarding the urban phenomenon in Queimadas-PB, we believe it is the result of the current determinations of the rescheduling process in the current mode of production, which has established new functions for the city and a new urban-rural relationship. In order to analyze this dimension, we carried out an exploratory study using a quantitative and qualitative research method. Thus, a bibliographical review was carried out related to the themes of small and local cities, on the historical development of Queimadas and its relationship with Campina Grande and the bibliography on spatial practices and the production of urban space. Also presenting an analysis of the municipality's position in the urban hierarchy of Paraíba. The study is related to the theme of the expansion of local cities, as well as the new urban hierarchies in Brazil. Therefore, the research assumes special importance both due to the relevance of the municipality studied in the regional urban network in which it is inserted, but also as a contribution to studies related to growing urban expansion and the process of conurbation with Campina Grande.
