Abstract:
Usability has become an important component of the software industry. The need
to make products easier to learn and use leads software development companies to
integrate usability tests in their production process. This work presents practical
considerations about the use of usability tests since the beginning of the software life
cycle, trying to guide software engineers to improve the quality of the product.
Environment, requirements and main techniques for usability tests are discussed, using
practical samples, such as usability laboratories of large companies and tests descriptions
made by experts. According to practical examples, it's described where usability tests
may be used in the software production cycle, how to perform tests with few resources
and what structure is adequate to initialize usability tests in products of Brazilian
companies.
