Abstract:
This research is linked to line one of Educational History, Policy and Management of
the Postgraduate Program in Education at the Federal University of Campina Grande
(PPGEd/UFCG). This investigation had as its object of study school management and the role
of the school director within the scope of the Paraíba Integral Education Program (PEI-PB),
taking as a time frame the period from 2016 to 2022. It is important to highlight that 2016 marks
the year of implementation of the model in the state, based on an agreement signed with the
Institute of Co-responsibility for Education (ICE), and 2022, my entry into postgraduate studies.
In this sense, the research analyzed the configurations for management and the role of the school
director in the Integral Education Program of Paraíba, revealing how the implementation of a
new management model, Educational Management Technology, for the schools that are part of
the Program brought significant implications for the role of the principal and the democratic
management of the school itself. The investigation was based on the theoretical-methodological
approach of historical and dialectical materialism, presenting historicity, totality and
contradiction as categories of analysis. With regard to content categories, they refer to
managerialism, democratic educational management, school director and organic intellectual.
We highlight as theoretical-methodological procedures for data construction, the bibliographic
survey and documentary research, whose collected corpus was examined through interpretative
analysis. The documents revealed that Educational Management Technology is based on
managerialism, transplanting, to the school environment, tools from the Business world,
adopted as a way of optimizing results, by increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of
educational processes. Regarding the role of the director, the documents point to a new
leadership profile, in which the leader is remodeled according to national policies and the
determinations of multilateral organizations to act as an organic intellectual of bourgeois
hegemony. Such determinations are present in PEI-PB through the leadership and management
model adopted, contributing to the consolidation of the Program through the development of
good practices, reinforcing an education based on neoliberal models.
