Resumo:
Water is a frequent reason for struggles, deprivations and simultaneously conflict and consensus, and it is,
at the same time, fundamental in defining the occupation of territories, directly interfering in the dynamics of social
relations. For, due to their geological formation process, the alluvial aquifers of the northeastern semi-arid region are
shallow, narrow, elongated and function analogously to underground water pipes, whose flow direction is predominantly
axial. In this context, this work proposes to analyze the potential of the source, considering the influence of the existing
wells using the water balance between the years 2014 and 2015. Therefore, the study area comprises the Brazilian
Semiarid, in the Sucuru River basin, in the municipality of Sumé, Paraíba, in the Irrigated Perimeter along the alluvial
aquifer. In this stretch, the water balance, which is calculated taking into account evapotranspiration, precipitation,
demand, recharge from the upstream frontier and flow to the downstream frontier, in a more critical period of water
scarcity, is sufficient to serve users. Therefore, the source has preserved potential without compromising users of
downstream regions.
