Abstract

Creating text with the help of the computer has become an increasingly common task these days. This process, however, besides not preventing the occurrence of spelling errors resulting from the author's ignorance, contributes to that new errors occur, these being due to the process of digitizing the text itself. Detection of these errors through automatic verification can be extremely useful in the process of proofreading, even though it is known that this process involves checking for aspects other than just spelling. This work is related to the orthographic verification of texts, more precisely, texts written in the language Portuguese The main objective of the work is to design a spelling checker for the Portuguese language, and to create an automatic method of obtaining and creating the dictionary, on which the verifier is based.
